Moving checklist
Everything to organise before, during and after a move — week by week.

A good move is mostly good timing. Use this checklist to keep track.
4–6 weeks before
- Give notice on your current rental as agreed in the contract.
- Ask two or three moving companies for a quote after they have seen what needs moving — or book a van and friends.
- Sort out what you no longer need: sell, give away or recycle it.
2 weeks before
- Collect boxes and label each one with its room and contents.
- Arrange the transfer or cancellation of electricity, water, heating and internet.
- Book the elevator or parking spot in front of the building if needed.
Moving day
- Read the meters in the old and the new home and take photos.
- Keep documents, valuables and medicines with you, not in the van.
- Check every room of the old home before you hand back the keys and sign the handover record.
After the move
- Register your new address with the Ministry of Interior if you are changing your permanent or temporary residence.
- Tell your bank, employer, insurer and doctor.
- Check that the deposit for the old home is returned as agreed.
